Commonwealth University College of Medicine (CUCOM) participated in the 2022 edition of the Lekkside International Education Fair (Edufair). The objective was to help the medical aspirants to get the right career guidance and seek admission or transfer to the CUCOM MD program to pursue their medical education abroad, especially those medical students who are impacted by the COVID pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Lekkside Edufair is Nigeria’s biggest education event organized every year across all major cities in the country. This year the Edufair was organized in 4 major cities of Nigeria on the following dates:

From CUCOM, Ms. Prerna Lama, VP Admissions and Student Welfare, represented our University. During the event, hundreds of medical aspirants accompanied by their parents and guardians visited our CUCOM camp in the Edufair and sought advice and counseling to pursue their medical education abroad and get information about the possibility of medical university transfer.

In the Edufair, Ms. Prerna Lama, by coordinating virtually with Mr. Andrew Wilson, advised many medical aspirants who wish to pursue their medical education abroad on the best way regarding the admission procedures, fee structure, accreditation status, Saint Lucia Campus Information, Hostel Facilities, Clinical Destinations and shared the brochures with them. Those students interested in admission to CUCOM medical programs also got the opportunity to get their eligibility checked with on-spot conditional acceptance letters and applied for admission in the Edufair.

Amongst all attendees, there were several students aggrieved by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and pandemic and who are left with no other option but to get immediate transfer to a good medical university for continuing to pursue their medical education. All transfer students who attended the CUCOM camp at the event were given complete support and guidance to get transferred to the CUCOM MD program. Eligible students were given on-spot Conditional Acceptance for transfers into the MD program along with guidance about the Visa assistance and travel options for reaching Saint Lucia. This is the least we could do to support war and pandemic-affected students and to empower them to continue their medical education at the CUCOM campus in safe and beautiful Saint Lucia.

The event turned out to be a great occasion for parents and guardians as well to consult their doubts and apprehensions right with the counselors and make the right decision. They got the opportunity to seek expert guidance about foreign medical education and Caribbean culture that will surely help them to make the right decision for their children’s careers.

At the event, attendees asked questions about medical education in the Caribbean, student hostel and mess facility, quality of education, clinical training, and other aspects of medical programs. Each of the participants was also given a copy of the University brochure to help them explore more about CUCOM, our medical programs, and faculty, Saint Lucia, the beautiful country which is home to CUCOM’s campus, and information on pursuing MD in the Caribbean.

Seeing the relieved faces of students and accompanying members after getting answers to their queries and seeing the happy faces of medical students who got admission to CUCOM’s MD Programs were all we hoped for, making CUCOM’s participation a success.
